A small but mighty family-run winery from the García family, of Vega Sicilia fame
This small family-run winery is located in the small town of Nava de Roa, and is the product of the experience accumulated over decades and through generations by the García family, of Vega Sicilia fame. All of their wines are aged in French / American oak made exclusively from their own vineyards, which span a range of altitudes and soils over 130 hectares. They are committed to sustainable practices from planting to labeling, using no insecticides or herbicides, and have the utmost respect for terroir, promoting soil diversity and working with low yields.
For several generations the García family has been fully dedicated to viticulture, taking advantage of the experience accumulated over decades and their winemaking know-how. Nava de Roa still retains a multitude of stone-presses and cellars where its people made and preserved wine in the past – as in the rest of the Ribera del Duero, its history and traditions are closely related to wine.
Currently the winery has 130 hectares of vineyards distributed in different plots located in the municipality of Nava de Roa. The different altitudes and diversity of the soils in their vineyards are a reflection of the quality of Monteabellón’s wines, and they are meticulous in their vine selection. Winemaker Isaac Fernadez uses the latest winemaking techniques to guarantee meticulous elaboration during the entire process, conserving stable levels of temperature and humidity just as it was in the old cellars of the family’s ancestors. These optimal facilities allow him to carefully control the aromas and flavours in the final wines.
Aged for 14 months in 70% French oak and 30% American oak barrels, and sourced from the vineyards located at a higher altitude. Here the loamy-sandy soils contain clay and limestone, contributing to its excellent structure.
