Carjcanti is made from 100% Carricante grapes grown in the Vigna Campo parcel, located on the high-altitude slopes of the Monti Iblei region (Ragusa). Vigna Campo was settled as experimental vineyard in the mid 90s by Dr. Salvo Foti, who planted selected cuttings of Carricante taken from the oldest Carricante vineyards found on Mount Etna (Etna being the cradle of Carricante). Vine density is up to about 9000 plants per hectare under the Guyot training-system. The soil also lies on a limestone-based bedrock (terre bianche) with a medium-loose topsoil rich in brown clay.
This northern-like Sicilian white wine – obtained from the rare indigenous grape Carricante – features a fragrant, firm and lemony aromatic profile, with utterly refreshing notes of pineapple, raw almonds, gunflint and sappy white flowers. The wine shows a tight and ostensibly young structure on the palate, packed with electrifying acidity, sappy white fruit and a pleasant impression of chalky minerality. A sober and refined white wine meant for medium/long-term ageing.
