Project Description

In 1968, Gigi Guarrasi from Palermo, and her husband, Hugues Bernard de la Gatinais, from France, inherited this estate from the Guarrasi family. The winery and vineyards, having been destroyed by an earthquake, were rebuilt and replanted in time for the 1976 vintage. At this time, Rapitalà was only one of five producers in Sicily to offer estate bottled wines.

Today, Rapitala’s 225 hectares, consisting of both indigenous and French varietals, slope down from Camporeale to Alcamo at altitudes ranging between 300m–600m. The vineyards, side by side, are divided into 180 unique vineyard parcels with each parcel managed, harvested and vinified separately, crafting optimal terroir expressions. As a result, Rapitala has one of the longest harvest seasons in Sicily, starting in August and ending in November, to ensure that each variety and parcel is picked at the right moment.
