Project Description

The first references to Castello di Gabbiano date back to 1124 when the castle and cellar were constructed for the rich banking families of Florence, the Bardi. Through the centuries various restorations have been conducted meaning the castle still stands and operates today.

The vineyards are set on the clay and limestone rock-filled soil of the estate. With a total of 147 hectares under vine, 109 hectares is dedicated to producing Chianti Classico, 35 hectares for IGT wines and 1 hectare for Vin Santo. Given this over 85% of the vines are Sangiovese all of which is produced via certified sustainable viticulture. Under the winemaking of Federico Cerelli, Castello di Gabbiano is fully committed to producing wines of the highest quality using traditional practises whilst not discarding modern technology, nor the need of research and innovation.
