SCAIA is one of the brands of pioneers Valpolicella Tenuta Sant’Antonio winery. Based north-east of Verona, their vineyards are on a ridge of hills, close to the Alps. In Veneto dialect, the word “scaia” means a chip of stone, chalk, limestone: it is a tribute to our soil, where a line of unique young wines is produced. Their focus is on enhancing the primary characteristics of the grapes via stainless steel fermentation and ageing, to produce consistently fresh wines with aromatic complexity.

Today the founder of Savian’s grandson, William Savian, manages what has developed into 42 hectare estate located between the Livenza and Tagliamento Rivers, where the provinces of Venice, Pordenone and Treviso meet. In 1705 the Melini family established a winery in Pontassieve, Tuscany, with the aim of creating wines of quality and provenance. Now recognised as one of Tuscany’s most popular wineries, Melini has become synonymous with modern style Chianti as a result of its quality and innovation.The Melini Winery, in Gaggiano, is situated 300 metres above sea level on the Chianti Classico hills on the road linking Poggibonsi to Castellina in Chianti. The new, modern winery, was built over the period of 1970-74 and consists of four floors that are built into the side of a hill. It was designed for the separate vinification of parcels from single vineyards (the cru concept). All vinification phases, from drying in the loft for the Governo all’Uso, to aging in barrels and bottling are performed using specific techniques and following the philosophy of quality.
